How to convert CSV to YAML with FileFlip

  1. Select the CSV files

In Finder or on the Desktop. One file, or a whole folder with ⌘ A.

  2. Press ⌥ F

FileFlip opens next to the selection and lists the formats it can make from CSV. Type “YAML” to jump to it.

  3. Choose YAML and press Return

The YAML files appear next to the originals with the same names. The CSV files stay as they are.

CSV and YAML

CSV has no structure beyond rows and columns, which code and config files often need. YAML is easy to read and edit by hand, which is why it’s used for configuration files.

What changes when you convert

  • Each row becomes a record. CSV has no data types, so check numbers and dates after converting.
