How to convert Markdown to TXT with FileFlip

  1. Select the Markdown files

In Finder or on the Desktop. One file, or a whole folder with ⌘ A.

  2. Press ⌥ F

FileFlip opens next to the selection and lists the formats it can make from Markdown. Type “TXT” to jump to it.

  3. Choose TXT and press Return

The TXT files appear next to the originals with the same names. The Markdown files stay as they are.

Markdown and TXT

People who don’t use Markdown see the raw # and * marks instead of formatting. Plain text strips everything but the words, ready to paste, search or process anywhere.

What changes when you convert

  • All formatting, images and links are removed; only the text remains.
  • Markdown is plain text with formatting marks; the converted file is for readers who don’t use Markdown.

Other ways on a Mac

For one file now and then you may not need FileFlip. These work with what’s already on your Mac.

Rename it

Markdown already is plain text. Duplicate the file in Finder and change the extension from .md to .txt.

The # and * marks stay in the text.
