FileFlip opens next to the selection and lists the formats it can make from SVG. Type “PNG” to jump to it.

SVG and PNG

Many apps, documents and upload forms only accept pixel images, not SVG. PNG keeps every pixel and supports transparency, which is what you want for screenshots, graphics and further editing.

What changes when you convert

  • SVG is a vector format and PNG stores pixels, so the result has a fixed size and won’t stay sharp when enlarged.

Other ways on a Mac

For one file now and then you may not need FileFlip. These work with what’s already on your Mac.

Terminal

The sips command converts images in place or into a new file.

sips -s format png logo.svg \
  --out logo.png

Recent macOS versions read SVG with sips; older ones don’t. Run sips --formats to check yours.

Quick Look

Quick Look can render an SVG to a PNG thumbnail from Terminal. The file is saved as logo.svg.png.

qlmanage -t -s 1024 -o . logo.svg

A debugging tool, limited to the size you ask for.
