FileFlip opens next to the selection and lists the formats it can make from SVG. Type “GIF” to jump to it.

SVG and GIF

Many apps, documents and upload forms only accept pixel images, not SVG. GIF animations play everywhere, from chat apps to old email clients.

What changes when you convert

  • SVG is a vector format and GIF stores pixels, so the result has a fixed size and won’t stay sharp when enlarged.
  • GIF is limited to 256 colors, so photos can look grainy or banded.

Other ways on a Mac

For one file now and then you may not need FileFlip. These work with what’s already on your Mac.

Terminal

The sips command converts images in place or into a new file.

sips -s format gif logo.svg \
  --out logo.gif

Recent macOS versions read SVG with sips; older ones don’t. Run sips --formats to check yours.
